At least 26 people were killed in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam when gunmen opened fire on tourists on Tuesday, said the police, with authorities calling it the worst attack on civilians in years. Gunmen, linked to a Lashkar-e-Taiba offshoot, opened fire in the serene Baisaran Valley, targeting innocent visitors enjoying a peaceful retreat. Prime Minister Narendra Modi decried the "heinous act", pledging the attackers "will be brought to justice". Political leaders across parties have strongly condemned the firing incident, calling it an attack on peace and the region’s tourism sector.
