Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Chenab Rail Bridge, a key part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link project, connecting the Jammu region to the Kashmir valley by train for the first time. The bridge, taller than the Eiffel Tower, and the new train service will reduce travel time between Jammu and Kashmir to about 3 hours, offering an affordable and all-weather transport option. Costing over 43,000 crore rupees, the project includes 36 tunnels and 943 bridges, marking a significant milestone in India’s infrastructure development. Additionally, Prime Minister Modi flagged off the Vande Bharat Express, a historic moment for Jammu and Kashmir’s rail connectivity. The train will run from Katra in Jammu to Srinagar, covering 272 km in about 3 hours 10 minutes. This rail link is expected to boost tourism, ease travel, and support the horticulture industry in the region, symbolizing the development and integration of Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of India.
