The violence erupted on Thursday night and early Friday when the administration attempted to remove an iron railing outside a mosque, which was considered an unauthorized encroachment. Dev Ankur Wadhawan reports that ‘police on Friday managed to identify several of the miscreants through the use of drones’ and have detained over 110 people. Six policemen were injured in the clash, leading to the use of tear gas and mild force to disperse the mob. The police emphasize a zero-tolerance policy towards such vandalism.
