In a setback for former Andhra chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy, the supreme court of India has refused to transfer a corruption case against him outside of Andhra or Telangana.
The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed the plea filed by Andhra Pradesh Deputy Speaker Raghu Rama Krishna Raju, seeking the transfer of the disproportionate assets case against former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy from Hyderabad to another city, preferably Delhi. The case, filed against Reddy by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), has been ongoing for over 10 years.
A bench of Justices BV Nagarathna and Satish Chandra Sharma rejected Raju’s request, stating that the matter is already being monitored by the High Court, which has directed day-to-day hearings before the trial court. The court emphasized that since the High Court is overseeing the process, the transfer of the case was unnecessary. "The High Court is monitoring the process before the concerned CBI court and has directed day-to-day hearings. We do not think transfer of cases against YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is needed," the bench said while dismissing the plea.
