At the India AI Impact Summit 2026 held at Bharat Mandapam, India Today Group Vice Chairperson Kalli Purie proposed a nine-point charter to ensure the fair and ethical use of artificial intelligence in media. She emphasized the need for ‘fair value for journalistic content used in AI systems’ and ‘attribution and traceability’ as democratic principles. Puri introduced the ‘AI sandwich’ model, where human intent initiates the process and a human makes the final decision, ensuring accountability. Meanwhile, Ireland’s Minister for Public Expenditure, Jack Chambers, lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s focus on digitising public services. Chambers stated, ‘It’s here for good and it has to be a force for good too,’ referring to AI’s role in healthcare and agriculture. Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw also addressed the summit, calling for international collaboration to combat the misuse of AI and deepfakes, noting that India is in talks with 30 countries to establish global safety norms.
