The rate of extinction is now 100 to 1,000 times above natural levels, marking what experts believe could be the onset of the sixth mass extinction. While some species like the Arabian oryx have been saved through conservation, limited funding and rising global threats mean many may still be lost. IUCN stresses the need for science-based conservation and policy action before it’s too late.
