Italy Floods LIVE: Dozens Evacuated In Flood-Hit Tuscany, Florence & Pisa On High Alert
Italy’s Tuscany region issued a red alert on Saturday for risk of flooding in the Valdarno Inferiore, Arno Costa, Bisenzio and Ombrone Pistoiese areas, while Florence remains on orange alert until the end of the day.
The decision came after heavy rains hit Tuscany on Friday, causing the main rivers in the region to rise above flood alert levels.
In the central Tuscany region, schools remained closed in several cities, including Florence, where the local administration has confirmed the closure of markets, public parks and cemeteries until Sunday.
More than 400 rescue operations were carried out between Friday and Saturday in the provinces of Florence, Prato, Pisa and Livorno, to deal with flooding and landslides, according to a statement from the Italian fire fighters.
