Reuven Azar, Israeli Ambassador to India, defended Israel’s strikes on Iran in an interview, stating the country acted because of an imminent existential threat. He said, ‘We are going to debilitate them substantially,’ adding that Iran’s capabilities to damage Israel and the region ‘have been degraded by almost 80 percent.’ Azar insisted Israel is working in sync with the United States and that the operations stem from common interests. He explained that Israel’s goal is to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles, and to stop support for proxies. Azar rejected claims that Israel is pursuing an unjust war, arguing Iran has attacked Israel for 37 years. When asked about India’s engagement with Iran, Azar stated that India acts in its own interests, adding that Israel and India share common interests. He said Israel will continue until there is a change in Iranian policy or regime.
