Yemen’s Houthi leader Abdel-Malik al-Houthi has warned that any Israeli presence in Somaliland would be treated as a “military target” by his forces.
The warning follows Israel’s formal recognition of Somaliland — the first country to extend such recognition to the self-declared republic, which has operated as a de facto state since breaking away from Somalia in the early 1990s.
The Houthis say Israel’s decision threatens security in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden region. Somalia and other international bodies have condemned the move, while analysts say the recognition could give Israel strategic access to key shipping routes.
