Israel-Hezbollah War: Strikes On Nabatieh Kill Lebanese Security Personnel Amid Islamabad Talks
Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon killed 13 Lebanese state security officers in Nabatieh on April 10th. The Israeli Air Force targeted government buildings, including the state security office, in what Lebanese officials described as a direct attack on state institutions. This comes despite Lebanon’s efforts to remain neutral in the Israel-Hezbollah conflict and just days after Israel agreed to direct negotiations with the Lebanese government for the first time in decades to discuss disarming Hezbollah. The strike has further complicated the already fragile situation as indirect US-Iran ceasefire talks continue in Islamabad.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage in Lebanon, with many civilians losing family members, and rescue teams still searching for bodies under the rubble in Beirut and other areas. Lebanese parliamentarians condemned the attacks as “massacres against civilians” in residential zones. While Israel claims it is targeting Hezbollah infrastructure, the deaths of state security personnel have raised serious doubts about the viability of the upcoming Islamabad talks and the possibility of a broader regional ceasefire.
