Israel’s security cabinet has now approved plans for the Israel Defence Forces to ‘conquer’ and indefinitely hold Gaza in an operation that sources say could take months. In contrast to ongoing operations that target specific parts of Gaza at one time, this operation would seek to seize and occupy all of Gaza for an undefined period of time. This plan is being put in place to achieve what Israeli leaders refer to as ‘total victory’ in Gaza. This not only involves the rescue of hostages still left in Gaza but also the complete elimination of Hamas and its ability to operate in the Enclave.
