Is Vladimir Putin Coming To Alaska, Or Is Donald Trump Off To Russia? 47th President Messes Up Meeting Location
On August 15, 2025, US President Donald Trump will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska to discuss possible resolutions to stop the conflict in Ukraine. The summit, according to Trump, is a "feel-out meeting" with the goal of having "constructive conversations," but he does not anticipate reaching a final peace agreement himself. The prospect of a settlement involving "some land swapping" between Russia and Ukraine was mentioned, but he gave no specifics.
Following the meeting, Trump intends to call European leaders and Ukrainian President Zelenskyy to discuss any results and perhaps arrange a follow-up meeting between Zelenskyy and Putin, either in person or virtually. Given that Alaska was formerly Russian territory before joining the US in 1867, the conference there has historical significance.
