Union Minister Jitendra Singh in an interview with India Today said that he sees the current state of affairs in Kashmir as a resurgence of the democratic aspiration, a state virtually nonexistent over the last 35 years. He also revealed that the Jammu and Kashmir’s Legislative Assembly will be elected for 5 years after nearly 50 years, as the Assembly has been enforced for a term of 6 years from 1975 till now. Union Minister Jitendra Singh has rejected the Opposition’s claim that independent MP Engineer Rashid is a "BJP proxy", saying the party does not need "clutches" to win an election. Speaking at ‘Panchayat AajTak’ event on the banks of Srinagar’s iconic Dal Lake, Jitendra Singh said, "As a BJP worker, I feel elated hearing this because it shows that the Opposition has accepted its defeat. Such statements are delivered from a position of weakness, not from a position of strength."
