The Iraqi Prime Minister has instructed security forces to counter any action that would undermine the country’s security and stability, amid concerns that the ongoing regional conflict is expanding. The statement appears directed at Shia militias inside Iraq, which are part of Iran’s axis of resistance that includes Hamas, the Houthis, Hezbollah, and Iraqi Shia militias. These militias have been targeting American interests in Iraq. The Iraqi administration, which is pro-American, is warning these militias of potential action against them. Iraq’s population is approximately 51 per cent Shia and 49 per cent Sunni, and authorities are concerned about preventing internal uprisings or law and order breakdowns as the regional war threatens to expand in multiple directions.
