Satellite imagery from Friday, March 20th, shows the United States’ largest aircraft carrier, USS Gerald R Ford, approaching the Gulf of Suez near Mount Prousia. Reuters confirmed the vessel’s identity through its distinctive deck shape matching available file imagery. The warship, carrying more than 5,000 sailors and over 75 military aircraft including F-18 Super Hornet fighter aircraft, has been deployed for nine months. Prior to arriving in the Middle East, the carrier took part in operations against Venezuela in the Caribbean. The Ford is equipped with sophisticated radar systems capable of controlling air traffic and navigation. The carrier’s movement closer to the region of conflict is seen as amplifying United States and Israeli military efforts against Iran, mounting increased pressure on the Iranian side in the ongoing Middle East tensions.
