Iran has thanked India for allowing the docking of the IRIS-Lavan at Kochi following the IRIS-Dina incident in the Indian Ocean. Iranian envoy to India expressed gratitude, stating his sincere thanks to the Government of India and local authorities for their cooperation and humanitarian approach in facilitating the vessel’s docking and supporting its crew. External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar explained that India acted out of humanity rather than considering geopolitical factors in allowing the Iranian Navy ship to dock at Kochi. The IRIS-Dina incident in the Indian Ocean resulted in the loss of many sailors and crew members, with about 39 survivors rescued by the Sri Lankan Navy. The IRIS-Lavan, carrying 182 sailors, gave a distress call to Indian authorities and was permitted to dock at Kochi. Iranian Ambassador Mohammad Reza Fazel extended his thanks to Indian authorities for saving the lives of Iranian sailors.
