European Union top diplomat Kaja Kallas has asserted that Lebanon must be included in the current ceasefire, expressing concerns that the ‘fragile ceasefire’ is on the verge of collapse. The French Foreign Minister has condemned recent strikes as unacceptable, while the British Foreign Secretary has echoed calls for the truce to extend to Lebanon. However, both the United States and Israel maintain that the agreement never included a cessation of operations against Hezbollah. Amidst these diplomatic tensions, Iran has escalated the situation by closing the Strait of Hormuz and indicating that parts of the strategic waterway have been mined. This development leaves only a narrow corridor for maritime traffic, which passes through the Iranian side of the strait. Consequently, any vessel attempting to cross must now obtain clearance from Iranian security forces, significantly impacting global shipping routes and regional security dynamics.
