The United States Department of Defence has confirmed that a US submarine sank an Iranian warship using a torpedo off the coast of Sri Lanka. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth addressed a press conference confirming the incident, which marks only the fourth time in history that a warship has been downed by a submarine. Dr. Hooshang Amirahmadi, President of the American-Iranian Council, stated ‘Iran can absorb this war forever, forever. Iran will never be defeated in this particular way.’ He described the conflict as ‘a completely illegal war’ and criticised the US administration’s approach. Amirahmadi warned that the war’s intensity could last three to four weeks, followed by a lower-intensity phase lasting at least a year. He also suggested the conflict serves Israeli interests, alleging that Netanyahu has dragged the US into the war. The incident occurred in international waters, raising concerns given its proximity to India.
