An Iranian navy ship, IRIS Dena, has sunk off the coast of Sri Lanka with 101 people missing, one person reportedly dead, and 78 injured. The corvette-class warship was returning to Iran after participating in India’s International Fleet Review in Visakhapatnam last week. Sri Lankan authorities reported no aircraft or ships observed in the area during the distress call, leading to suspicions of a submarine attack. The vessel had nearly 200 personnel on board, including a ceremonial band. Only 32 crew members have been found and hospitalised so far. Sri Lankan officials confirmed the ship has now sunk. The incident occurs amid escalating regional tensions, with the theatre of conflict expanding beyond traditional zones. No country has claimed responsibility for the attack at this time.
