Iran’s ambassador to India, Mohammad Fatali, has indicated that Indian tankers may receive safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz in the coming hours, emphasising the strategic friendship between India and Iran. The representative of Iran’s supreme leader, Dr Abdul Majid Hakimi Ilahi, stated that discussions concerning the Strait of Hormuz are ongoing and expressed confidence that India will benefit from oil, gas and other resources. Currently, 28 Indian ships with around 700 seafarers are stranded in the Gulf of Persia and Gulf of Oman. India’s External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar has held two telephonic conversations with his Iranian counterpart Sayyed Abbas Araqchi over the past three days to ensure energy supply lines remain open. Around six ships carrying energy supplies are likely to pass through the strait soon. The Indian government confirmed that an Indian tanker, Jag Prakash, passed through the Strait of Hormuz unharmed yesterday, a day after another Indian oil tanker arrived in Mumbai on 1st March.
