India’s Parliament was apprised of escalating developments in West Asia, where conflict erupted on 28 February 2026 between Israel and the United States on one side, and Iran on the other, with attacks extending to several Gulf states. The violence has resulted in numerous casualties, including Iranian leadership, and widespread infrastructure destruction. The Cabinet Committee of Security met on 1 March under the Prime Minister’s chairmanship, focusing on the safety of Indian nationals in the region and implications for regional and economic security. India condemned the violence, calling for restraint, de-escalation, and respect for sovereignty. With approximately 90 lakh Indian citizens in Gulf nations and thousands in Iran, the Ministry of External Affairs issued multiple advisories urging Indians to avoid non-essential travel and leave Iran. Two Indian mariners have been lost in attacks on merchant ships. The conflict threatens India’s energy security, disrupts trade worth 200 billion US dollars annually, and has halted normal life across the region.
