These shopkeepers, many of whom migrated to Israel after the 1979 revolution, shared their perspectives on the escalating conflict between their country of residence and their ancestral homeland. Isaac, a local shopkeeper, expressed deep concern over the Iranian regime, calling it ‘very dangerous for all the area’ and warning of the potential for a nuclear war. He emphasized that Israel cannot afford to lose any conflict, stating, ‘If we lose, you’re not going to interview me.’ Another resident highlighted that the animosity lies with the ‘fanatical regime’ rather than the people, expressing hope for a future where the two nations can be ‘more than good friends’ once the current leadership changes. The market, reminiscent of Old Delhi, remains a unique cultural bridge amidst regional tensions.
