In a tragic start to the new year, at least seven people have died and hundreds have been hospitalized in Indore’s Bhagirathpura due to contaminated water. Madhya Pradesh Urban Development Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya, visiting the affected area, announced a compensation of ₹2 lakh for the families of the deceased. He stated, ‘The source of the contaminated water has been identified and is being repaired.’ The Minister assured that the government would bear all treatment costs and that he would remain monitoring the situation until every patient recovers. Meanwhile, the administration has suspended a zonal officer and an assistant engineer for negligence.
