In a shocking tragedy on New Year’s Day, Indore’s Bhagirathpur area has been hit by a lethal water contamination crisis. At least seven people have died and over 150 have been hospitalised after consuming tainted municipal water. The India Today report, filed by Dharmendra Kumar Sharma, highlights that residents had complained of a ‘foul smell and strange taste’ for months, but their warnings were ignored. Following the fatalities, the Mohan Yadav government has suspended a zonal officer and an assistant engineer, while a sub-engineer has been sacked. The Chief Minister has announced Rs 2 lakh compensation for each bereaved family. The Congress has demanded a culpable homicide case against the Mayor and Municipal Commissioner, alleging systemic failure in India’s cleanest city.
