Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned that Moscow will pursue the ‘liberation of its historical lands by military means’ if substantive dialogue with the West fails. Speaking at a defence ministry meeting, Vladimir Putin insisted Russia prefers diplomacy but will consistently expand its ‘security buffer zone’ if ignored. The warning comes as US President Donald Trump pushes for a peace deal, sending special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to the region. Vladimir Putin also blamed the West for unleashing the 2022 war.
