India’s military capabilities and counter-terrorism doctrine have seen a significant transformation since 1999. The armed forces have replaced older weapon systems with modern assault rifles like the AK-203 and SIG SAUERs, and have integrated advanced drone technology for surveillance, logistics, and tactical strikes. This technological leap is also evident in the air force with the induction of Rafale and Tejas jets. Following the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, India responded with ‘Operation Sindoor’, destroying nine terror targets. This has led to the establishment of a new policy, where, “Any act of terror will be an act of war.” This shift is bolstered by the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative, increasing self-reliance in defence. India maintains preparedness on its borders with both Pakistan and China, with the Defence Minister and service chiefs recently paying tribute at the National War Memorial.
