Sri Lankan opposition MP Namal Rajapaksa has raised serious concerns after the US Navy sank an Iranian ship off the coast of Sri Lanka, with over 100 Iranian personnel reported missing. Namal Rajapaksa questioned whether the Sri Lankan government was aware of the US military mission in the Indian Ocean region, stating that the government must clarify if they were informed or kept in the dark. He emphasised that while the Sri Lankan Navy responded according to international law with a rescue mission, the incident raises major security concerns for the region. Namal Rajapaksa called on India to play a pivotal role in maintaining peace and stability in the Indian Ocean, warning that instability from the Gulf region could spread to South Asia. He stressed that the region has experienced enough conflict and that mature leadership is needed to prevent further escalation.
