Indian Naval Ships Udaygiri And Himgiri: Enhancing Indian Navy’s Prowess | Navy Stealth Assets
The Indian Navy commissioned two advanced frontline stealth frigates, INS Udaygiri and INS Himgiri, on August 26, 2025, at the naval base in Visakhapatnam. These Project 17A multi-mission stealth frigates feature modern Combined Diesel or Gas (CODOG) propulsion, advanced weapons and sensors including BrahMos missiles and Barak 8 surface-to-air missiles. Built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd (Udaygiri) and Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (Himgiri), they showcase about 75% indigenous content aligning with Aatmanirbhar Bharat. The ships significantly enhance India’s maritime strike and defense capabilities in Blue Water conditions and join the Eastern Fleet to strengthen maritime security in the Indian Ocean Region.
