Indian markets opened firm, tracking strength across Asian equities as easing geopolitical tensions lifted investor sentiment on day 25 of the West Asia war. The Nifty rose 2 percent and Sensex gained 2 percent, recovering from Monday’s panic when 14 lakh crore rupees were wiped off from BSE-listed stocks market capitalisation. The rally was fuelled by Donald Trump’s statements pausing military action on Iran for five days, though Iran denied any ongoing diplomatic talks. International oil benchmarks Brent and WTI softened on expectations of easing supply concerns. However, the Indian crude basket surged to an all-time high of 157 dollars per barrel on March 23rd, underscoring India’s exposure to elevated import costs. The rupee showed signs of recovery after slipping past the 94 mark against the dollar on Monday. Precious metals gold and silver saw a sharp rebound in late trade as investors hedged against lingering uncertainty. All sectors ended in the green, with broader markets rising 2.5 percent.
