India and the United States are engaged in crucial trade meetings in New York, with an Indian delegation led by Minister Piyush Goyal. Sources suggest the initial talks with the Trump administration are progressing well. A positive outcome from these discussions could pave the way for a Quad Summit in India before the end of the year, to be attended by Donald Trump. However, the visit is conditional upon the finalisation of a trade deal. "If there isn’t a trade deal by November, then the Quad Summit might not happen, because Trump is very clear that without a trade deal, he’s not coming to India." While the US State Department has reportedly started laying the groundwork for the summit, the immediate focus for both sides is to resolve all differences on the trade front and sign a Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA).
