India Today’s Ashraf Wani reports exclusively from the site of an Israeli airstrike on a crucial bridge in southern Lebanon, becoming the first journalist in the world to reach the location. The bridge, which connected southern Lebanon to Beirut and other parts of the country via the main highway, was destroyed in a series of massive blasts on Sunday evening. The Israeli Defence Forces targeted the bridge believing it served as a supply route for Hezbollah. The bombing has created deep craters and completely severed the only highway linking southern Lebanon to the rest of the country. The destruction affects not only Hezbollah but also approximately 20 per cent of Lebanon’s population living in the south, cutting off supplies and rescue operations to hundreds of villages and towns. Lebanese Prime Minister has described the action as punishment for the civilian population rather than Hezbollah. The report shows devastation to nearby infrastructure including resorts and amusement parks. Israeli forces have intensified operations in southern Lebanon, particularly around the town of Khyam, with heavy bombing continuing across the region.
