On the 26th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Divas, India Today speaks with Major General Satyendra Singh Senawati, an army aviator who participated in the 1999 war. At Drass, he recounts his experiences during Operation Vijay, including a specific mission on 12th May 1999. Flying an armed Cheetah helicopter, he engaged an enemy concentration at Tololing. He states, "We brought on MMG fire onto the enemy concentration, inflicted heavy damage, but the enemy also retaliated with heavy caliber weapons onto us, the anti-aircraft weapons, which actually substantially damaged our aircraft." Despite the damage, he flew the aircraft back safely. Major General Satyendra Singh also discusses other missions such as aerial reconnaissance to ascertain infiltration levels, troop induction, casualty evacuations under fire, and directing artillery fire.
