India Today reports on the upcoming inauguration of the new Pamban Rail Bridge in Rameshwaram by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 6, 2025. This 2.08 km long bridge, India’s first vertical lift sea bridge, is built at a cost of 535 crore rupees. The new structure features advanced technology, allowing it to withstand harsh marine conditions and accommodate high-speed trains. Unlike the old bridge which took 25-30 minutes to lift, the new bridge can lift its central span to 17 meters in just 5 minutes, significantly improving maritime traffic flow.
