India Today conducted a first-of-its-kind survey across 98 districts in 21 states and one union territory, asking 9,188 Indians about gender attitudes, civic consciousness, and social behavior. The survey revealed significant disparities between states on issues like domestic violence, women’s autonomy, and decision-making power within families. While 83% of respondents opposed wife-beating, 67% said women should not have freedom to choose their marriage partners. India Today’s Gross Domestic Behaviour survey reveals stark regional disparities in gender and religious attitudes across India. Kerala emerges as a beacon of inclusivity, ranking first in both gender parity and religious diversity. Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh lag behind. The survey shows 39% of Indians support religious discrimination in employment, while 61% oppose inter-religious marriages. Education and safety for women are highlighted as key factors for progress.
