In an India Today Global Exclusive from Tehran, Foreign Affairs Editor Geeta Mohan interviewed Iranian Foreign Minister Syed Abbas Araghchi amid escalating tensions between the US and Iran. Araghchi stated Iran is ‘fully prepared for both options, war, God forbid, and peace’ as the third round of indirect talks between the US and Iran took place in Geneva with Oman mediating. The meeting involved US Special Envoy Steve Whitkoff and Jared Kushner alongside Araghchi, with Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidy as key mediator. Araghchi emphasised that ‘there is no military option for Iran’s peaceful nuclear program’ and that Iran demands its rights for peaceful use of nuclear technology. He said a ‘fair, balanced, and equitable deal is achievable’ if sanctions are lifted in return for confidence-building measures on Iran’s nuclear programme. The interview, conducted ahead of the Geneva talks, was widely quoted by international media.
