Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced that the Indian government is in active discussions with social media companies to implement age-based restrictions and deepfake safeguards. Speaking at the India AI Impact Summit, Vaishnaw stated, ‘This is something which has now been accepted by many countries that age-based regulation has to be there.’ The move aligns with India’s data protection framework to protect young users. Meanwhile, billionaire venture capitalist Vinod Khosla issued a stark warning, suggesting AI could ‘wipe out BPO firms almost completely within the next five years.’ The summit also highlighted the ‘Sarvam AI’ launch, India’s full-stack sovereign AI platform. Former Union Minister Smriti Irani emphasized AI’s role in empowering rural women, comparing its guidance to ‘the way Krishna guided Arjuna.’ Market analysts Shailendra Bhatnagar and Sharad Avasthi discussed the impact on IT stocks, suggesting that while AI causes disruption, current valuations offer buying opportunities in specific sectors like PSU banks and metals.
