India-Pakistan Match Ignites Political War; Opposition Slams Govt

The India versus Pakistan Asia Cup cricket match has created a political controversy, as it is the first such game since the Pahalgam terror attack. Opposition parties, including Congress and AIMIM, are criticizing the central government and the BCCI for allowing the match to proceed. AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi questioned the decision, asking what is valued more: "the lives of 26 Indian citizens or the money that’s usually bought through the match." He referenced an earlier statement that terror and dialogue cannot go hand-in-hand. Families of the Pahalgam attack victims have also asked for a boycott of the match. The Aam Aadmi Party has called for protests. In response, BJP MP Raj Thakur said that it is a tournament match and not a bilateral series, and that India could lose points by not playing.
