India has offered to cooperate with the government of Bangladesh to save the ancestral property of filmmaker Satyajit Ray. The Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement calling it "regrettable that the property which once belonged to Satyajit Ray’s grandfather, Upendra Kishore Ray Choudhury, is now being demolished." The property is located in Memensingh, Bangladesh. The Indian government stated its willingness to work with Bangladesh on the repair and reconstruction of the heritage site. This development follows concerns raised by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee regarding the demolition of ancestral properties of Bengali icons in Bangladesh, including a prior incident involving Rabindranath Tagore’s ancestral property.
