Justice B.R. Gavai has been sworn in as the 52nd Chief Justice of India. He is the first Buddhist and only the second judge from the scheduled caste to ascend to the nation’s highest judicial office. Justice Gavai will serve until 23rd November 2025. His elevation is seen as symbolic of the judiciary’s commitment to inclusivity and constitutional morality. The new CJI has been part of several important benches, including one that condemned bulldozer actions.
