As the West Asia conflict reaches day 26, Iran has countered a 15-point US peace proposal with five maximalist conditions. These demands include a complete halt to aggression, payment for war damages, and international recognition of Iran’s authority over the Strait of Hormuz. In response to the escalating crisis, the United States is deploying approximately 7,000 to 8,000 additional personnel to the region, including elements of the 82nd Airborne Division and two Marine Expeditionary Units. This military buildup occurs as Iran continues missile strikes on Israeli civilian areas and threatens to mine the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, during an all-party meeting in India, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar asserted that India would not act as a mediator, stating, ‘India cannot be a Dalal nation.’ The Indian government, while addressing concerns about energy security and supply chains, clarified its position of not being a ‘fixer’ in global diplomacy, in contrast to Pakistan’s reported mediation efforts.
