At the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin, China is showcasing its technological advancements in robotics and artificial intelligence. On the sidelines of this multilateral meeting, an important bilateral is scheduled between India and China. Following a dialing down of tensions after the BRICS Kazan summit, both countries are looking to move forward. However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s stated position is that "peace and tranquility at the borders [is] the prerequisite for the relationship to move forward." Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has also stated that continued friction is not in the interest of either nation. Economic ties, including India seeking greater market access and the resumption of Chinese supplies of fertilizers and tunnel boring machines, are also part of the discussion.
