In an interview with India Today, PDP leader Iltija Mufti addressed the recent Naugam police station blast and the investigation into a ‘white collar’ terror module. She stated, ‘Justice cannot come at the cost of a Kashmiri’s dignity’, condemning the subsequent ethnic profiling of Kashmiris across India who are reportedly being denied housing. Mufti revealed that the wife of a Tehsildar killed in the Naugam blast claimed he called her just before his death, saying he was scared and that smoke was emanating from the material he was asked to seal. While condemning all forms of terrorism, Mufti criticized the policy of ‘collective punishment’ and the alienation of Kashmiris that follows such incidents. She called on the government in Delhi to change its policies towards Jammu and Kashmir, warning that the current approach will only breed more resentment.
