How the 2025 Peace Deal Differs from the Oslo Accords

The new 2025 peace deal marks a stark departure from the Oslo Accords of 1992 — not only in timing but in the scale of violence that preceded it. Unlike Oslo, which emerged amid cautious optimism, this three-phase accord was born out of the bloodiest conflict in West Asia since the 1973 Yom Kippur War. Its roadmap begins with halting hostilities, followed by reconstruction, and finally, establishing stable governance and economic recovery in Gaza. The conversation also traces the historical arc of Arab-Israeli conflicts — from the wars of 1948, 1967, and 1973 to the rise of Iran’s influence post-1979 — and examines how the Palestinian struggle became the defining cause of the Muslim world.
