In recent years, there have been several instances of violence against Punjabi singers, which has revealed a dark side of the Punjabi music industry. The industry, which also happens to be the biggest non-film music industry in India, has been battling gang violence, threats to singers, and even killings in broad daylight. Things took a turn for the worse in the year 2022, when popular singer Sidhu Moosewala was killed in a gangland-style shooting in his village. Other singers, which include the likes of AP Dhillon, Parmish Verma, Honey Singh, and Badshah, have also either been threatened or attacked. There have been allegations of jailed gangsters running their criminal empires from behind bars while also threatening Punjabi singers and artists for extortion money.
