NASA’s Spitzer Space Telescope has captured a rare and dramatic event: a star-sized debris cloud formed from a collision between rocky bodies around a young star called HD 166191. The cloud briefly blocked the starlight, allowing scientists to study its size, shape, and speed of dispersion. This marks the first time both infrared glow and the dust’s haziness during transit were observed. The findings offer a unique glimpse into the chaotic processes that shape planetary systems. Future observations, including with the James Webb Space Telescope, will further reveal the makeup of this cosmic aftermath.
