In a disturbing incident from Karnataka’s Koppal district, a Hindu youth named Venkatesh was allegedly assaulted by a group linked to the SDPI. The victim was seen at a bus stand with a Muslim woman and her child, leading to a misunderstanding by the attackers. According to the police, Venkatesh was actually attempting to mediate a domestic dispute between the woman and her husband at the latter’s request. The speaker noted, ‘The victim has named several accused in police are probing of links to the SDPI supporters.’ While the attackers recorded a video claiming a relationship existed, the woman’s family has defended Venkatesh, stating he was a neighbour trying to help. Tensions escalated as SDPI workers protested outside the police station, demanding a POCSO case against Venkatesh instead of the kidnapping and robbery charges filed against the four arrested accused. The Koppal SP confirmed that the investigation into the assault and the subsequent communal tension is ongoing.
