Himanta Biswa Sarma All The Way? Arnab Goswami’s Reading Of the Bumper Voting In Assam
According to Election Commission officials, voting in the ongoing Assembly elections gained momentum throughout Assam on Thursday morning, with an overall turnout of 38.92% at 11 am. At this point, Sarupathar had the lowest turnout (34.83%), while Abhayapuri had the highest. A robust voter response over the first half of the polling period is indicated by the consistent increase in numbers. In the 2021 Assembly elections, Assam saw a high overall turnout of about 82%, and officials anticipate a similarly high level of participation this time. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is running from Jalukbari, urged people to cast ballots in huge numbers before casting his ballot at the Garal Buniyadi School voting place at around 10:30 am.
Himanta Biswa Sarma’s litmus test will be the 2026 Assam election. Even though he has been a prominent figure in Assamese politics since the 1990s, he is the incumbent and the face of this election. He was also mainly responsible for the last two BJP triumphs. However, in 2016, he became a neo-convert to the BJP, which chose Sarbanand Sonowal as Chief Minister following the party’s first victory, and led the party in its subsequent 2021 election. In a sense, Himanta was not on the ballot. Following the victory, he was appointed Chief Minister.
