Smoke billowed over Beirut’s southern suburbs on March 5 as Israeli strikes targeted Hezbollah positions across Lebanon. Hezbollah launched drones and rockets at Israel on Monday, prompting Israeli retaliation that has killed dozens. The United Nations reports nearly 60,000 people have fled the conflict zone, with tens of thousands displaced. An Israeli military spokesperson published a map on Wednesday showing an area in southern Lebanon that residents should evacuate, amounting to around 8% of Lebanese territory. The Lebanese government has banned Hezbollah’s military operations and ordered the surrender of weapons in the Lebanese-armed zone. Iran fired missiles and drones at Middle Eastern allies including Bahrain, Kuwait, UAE, Oman, and targets in Saudi Arabia, with minor damage to an embassy in Riyadh. NATO forces intercepted Iranian missiles and drones headed towards Turkey and Jordan.
