Trinamool Congress leader Dr Shashi Panja defended her party’s decision to drop 33% of sitting MLAs, calling it a political strategy to address vulnerability and performance issues. Speaking about the upcoming Bengal elections, she dismissed concerns about anti-incumbency and accused the BJP of targeting Bengal unfairly. Dr Panja said Suvendu Adhikari ‘can choose his seat where he wants to lose from,’ confidently predicting his defeat in both Bhabanipur and Nandigram. She called Adhikari’s 2021 Nandigram victory a ‘load-shedding win’ that remains sub judice. Dr Panja criticized the BJP for fielding no minority candidates and questioned central government actions like attempting to remove the chief secretary during elections. She accused the union government of singling out Bengal, citing 28 out of 71 union ministers facing criminal charges, and questioned why Bengal faces special scrutiny when other states do not.
