This report covers the death of 16-year-old national-level basketball player, Hardik, in a tragic accident in Lakhan Majra, Rohtak. The incident occurred when a basketball pole crashed down on him while he was practicing alone on the court. The event, captured on CCTV, has raised serious questions about the quality and safety of sports infrastructure in the state. According to India Today’s Aman Bharadwaj, ‘people and sportsmen do question that how come the preparations being made, the infrastructure is being established, that the pole or the things in the basketball court, they are taking lives.’ This is reportedly the second such incident in Haryana in a week, following a similar death in Bahadurgarh.
